Adult Family Home

What Is An Adult Family Home (AFH)?

Adult Family Homes (AFH) are residential homes licensed by the State of Washington to care for up to six residents. They are an alternative to skilled nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Adult Family Homes provide room, board, laundry, housekeeping, necessary supervision, assistance with activities of daily living, personal care and nursing services, if necessary.

Families that own and operate Adult Family Homes are families that have opened their homes to those in need. Such a person may be the frail elderly, senior adults, or any other adult who requires assistance. Each and every Adult Family Home is unique in its own way, by the type of residents that it serves and the type of care that is offered.

The Department of Social and Health Services inspects Adult Family Homes yearly, so there is strict compliance to regulations. The requirements on the owners, providers and caregivers includes at a minimum, Fundamentals of Caregiving, Modified, Nurse Delegation, Specialty training in Dementia and Mental Health, CPR and First Aid training, and 10 hours of continuing education each year.

Visit the homes and inquire about the atmosphere, style of home, and activities to ensure that your loved one will enjoy the setting and the company. Costs are based on the specialized needs and level of care (determined by the initial assessment that our full time R.N. provides the resident). We encourage you to call A Better View Adult Family Home.
